grand budapest embroidery

This was a project with inspiration from Wes Anderson’s movie The Grand Budapest Hotel.

What originally started as a drawing assignment quickly developed into an investigation of colour and how to re-create the facial expressions of some of the Budapest characters.

I used yarn to ‘draw’ and blend colours to also create a differentiation of light and shadow.

The final result were these mix-media illustrations on A3 paper with the use of both photocopying and embroidery for the final result.

I chose to focus on three of the characters in the movie which were Madame D, Henckels and the Young Writer
